Brainerd, Minn. – Tommy Archer was confident even before the c3controls Camaro turned a wheel at the Ryan Companies Classic at Brainerd International Raceway over the July 4th weekend. Months of meticulous planning and preparation were paying off as Archer made his remarkable comeback real. Independence Day fireworks started early when Tommy added to his confidence with a pole position qualifying run for the July 5 race.
The Archer Brothers crew put the brilliant blue and yellow Camaro on the track for c3controls, the team’s primary marketing partner. “The car looked great, Archer says, “Black Bear Casino Resort (one of the team’s marketing partners at the track) was ecstatic.” The Archer Brothers c3controls Camaro was as fast as it looked when the green flag waved. “I stretched out a lead at the start, he says, “I was catching cars quickly.” I had such a good car I passed people where nobody else passed.”
A full course caution bunched up the field around the half way point, 18 laps into the race. Archer held his position on the restart until he caught a lapped car. The other driver misjudged turn 13 and spun the No.54 c3controls Camaro off the track by hitting Tommy in the right rear wheel. It derailed what could have been a storybook win. Archer kept his cool, just pulled his belts a little tighter and took off to regain lost ground. “The car is really good in the turns,’ Tommy said. “I can’t express how well the Archer Brothers team prepared the car.”
Archer carved his way back through the field like the seasoned pro he is. The Mojo is back, hardly missing a beat. Now in third and gunning for more, the top three lapped the rest of the field, with help of the caution. Tommy had a real fight on his hands for second, but couldn’t quite catch Dillon Machavern, the eventual winner by one second over Tommy at the line.
It has been said a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. It is only a matter of time before the Archer Brothers team will move up one more step – to the top step on the victory lane podium.
