Elkhart Lake, WI – Tommy Archer and his c3controls Chevrolet Camaro were prepped and ready to take on the track of Road America located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, amongst the beautiful rolling hills for this morning’s qualifying session for tomorrow’s race. While today’s early qualifying session brought a few challenges to the Archer Brothers team, they wasted no time and rebounded from their earlier issues to start tomorrows Next Dimension 100 race from 6th position.
The first official qualifying session held at 8:45am was unfortunately cut short due to an exposed cracked oil fitting on the car. With limited time prior to the next practice session, the Archer Brothers crew worked feverishly to get the car fixed and ready for the next session. Tommy ran this practice session with old tires to make sure that the earlier problem was corrected with no other lingering issues. The team had the foresight to sign up for 2nd chance qualifying, which gives drivers outside of the Top 5 from the mornings qualifying session the ability to qualify again to improve their time. Now ready to re-qualify, Tommy wasted no time by turning the fastest lap of the weekend at a lap time of 2:14.243. With the Trans Am TA2 “Fast Five” drivers already locked in to their positions from the earlier session, Tommy’s fast lap will have him starting 6th.
“The crew had the car set up perfectly. I look forward to the race tomorrow and even if that means rain, we are in good shape,” says Tommy. “I can’t thank the crew enough for getting through the issues we have encountered lately and hopefully we have turned the corner for better results ahead.”
Tomorrow’s 101 mile/25 lap race begins at 9:30am CST. Don’t forget you can follow along to live timing and scoring via the Race Monitor app or on the official website of Trans Am at www.gotransam.com.
