Lexington, OH – Tommy Archer in the No. 54 c3controls Chevrolet Camaro brought the energy and momentum from his 2nd place finish at Brainerd, Minnesota in July. He fiercely battled a field of 32 cars today at Mid-Ohio. Archer started 17th on the grid due to some mechanical issues in qualifying for race number 7 of 12 in the Trans Am TA2 American Muscle Car Series, from the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course located in Lexington, Ohio. While Tommy battled to find the top 5 of the time charts throughout the weekend, he was still able to drive his way through the pack to an 8th place finish.
Tommy wasted no time by passing 6 cars within the first few laps of the race and remained in the 11th position behind a strong battle up front. A full-course caution brought out on lap 14 bunched the field back together and allowed Tommy to close within seeing distance of the front runners. When the race restarted, Tommy lost one position due to heavy traffic and being forced off-line. Within the next few laps, Tommy regathered himself and fought hard to battle with multiple drivers trying to take away his position.
“The car battled a lot of gremlins over the weekend,” says Tommy. “The car never got up to full speed with those gremlins which didn’t allow the team proper time to work on getting the car set up correct for the race. The Archer Brothers crew worked extremely hard, before and after every session. We were able to move up 9 spots throughout the race. I’m pleased the car is in good shape heading into the next event.”
Tommy and the Archer Brothers crew will have two weeks prior to their next race at Road America located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This will give the team time to review the notes and details from the weekend, in preparation for one of the longest racetracks of the season measuring 4 miles in length. Road America, a track in which Tommy has won at multiple times and one of the teams home tracks, brings a variety of history and excitement with high speed corners and long turns.
